Sivarasa Rasiah is a Member of Parliament representing Subang Constituency who is also a PKR Central Executive Council member. Although he sounds like an Indian, he looks like an Indian and has the name of an Indian, Sivarasa is far from being an Indian.
Time and time again Sivarasa boldly states that PKR is a multi-racial party and does not entertain ethnic-centric policies. Ever wondered why Sivarasa goes on-and-on saying that? It is because that statement is his tool for survival. Everytime he is cornered with issues pertaining to Indians and their welfare, he comes up with this.
Initially, it is very impressive to hear such revelations. But over time when you look at the whole picture and realise Lim Guan Eng does not say such things when there are issues pertaining to the Chinese community and Anwar changes his statements depending on community he is with at the moment, questions starts popping regarding Sivarasa.
Leading to the Hulu Selangor by-election in 2010, Sivarasa was quoted that “Putting an Indian candidate to stand in the by-election would be most favourable for the party looking at the constituency’s previous voting pattern”. Isn’t this playing the racial card? In his statement it was clear that the main criteria for selecting a candidate was race, because Sivarasa felt that was the winning formula.
The truth is Sivarasa would go to any extend to use the racial card even if it yields negative outcome to the community just for his personal political gain. His game plan was very evident when he manipulated the Indians during the SJK(T) Effingham land controversy in 2012. He ridiculously twisted the land story into making the Indians believe MIC was trying to steal the school’s land when all MIC did was trying to construct a hostel and sports field on part of the school’s land. After numerous meetings and discussions, it was finally concluded that MIC was merely assisting the school and did not unlawfully take the plot of land in question.
Sivarasa was caught with his pants down again while trying to fool the Bukit Raja estate workers over a huge piece of land allocated to them. Plantation giant’s Sime Darby provided 15 acres of land to build affordable homes for ex-plantation workers. Sivarasa together with Xavier Jaya Kumar allegedly diverted eight of the 15 acres of land for a luxury housing project. Upon this being brought up, Sivarasa denied such allegations and said they were baseless. An ex-plantation worker then produced evidence of a formal letter that was published in FMT Website, July 23rd 2012,stating that 15 acres of land was indeed given by Sime Darby. Sivarasa refused to comment.
In PKR’s most recent Manifesto, Sivarasa & Co (those from the Indian heritage) were ridiculed because the manifesto did not contain anything much for Indians. When questioned, the excuse by Charles Santiago was he wasn’t part of the manifesto drafting committee. Absolutely ridiculous.
Sivarasa can go on and on about working beyond race barriers, but the reality is when an Indian has a problem, he will always look for another Indian to share his sorrows first. Maybe it is because we feel another Indian will understand us better.
Maybe we are comfortable speaking in our native language. You do not expect us to run to Anwar first, do you Mr. Sivarasa?
